It is so easy for me to be happy when my dreams come true, when I own the things I desire, when I make love to a beautiful woman (who wouldn’t). And still, I am so ungrateful when I don’t have all these things, when I don’t see all my dreams fulfilled (because I didn’t try hard enough) and so on.
As a chief-hypocrite, I’m grateful only when I have everything I wish for, blinded by the imaginary value of some material objects. Thus I fail to acknowledge what I already have, those things I’d be willing to sacrifice anything for. I’ve decided to raise my awareness level with regards to things I can be grateful for on a daily basis:
I am grateful for being young, strong, alive and healthy.
I am grateful for having many great friends.
I am grateful for the useful life experience I’ve gained so far.
I am grateful for being able to work passionately.
I am grateful for knowing that I’m able to do much more than I’ve even dreamed of.
I am grateful for being skilled in the IT domain.
I am grateful for deciding to improve my own character and I’ve already started doing that.
I am grateful for having my family healthy and close to me.
I am grateful for having the clothes I like.
I am grateful for all the relationships I have been through and the ones to come.
I am grateful for achieving many of goals I was aiming for.
I am grateful for having the ability to acknowledge both my qualities and my imperfections.
I am grateful for the privilege of breathing the air of life.
I am grateful for being granted a trip to planet Earth.
I am grateful for not being born in a country torn apart by war and hunger.
I am grateful for all the painful experiences I’ve been through, because they’ve helped me evolve.
I am grateful for having enough to eat and some money in my wallet.
I am grateful for everything that surrounds me.
I am grateful for the wonderful way in which humanity and this planet have been created.
I am grateful for my inner strength that I know I have, and for not being easily reachable.
I am grateful for the smile people sometimes show to me.
I am grateful for the existence of beer and for being able to drink it.
I am grateful for not being violent when I drink.
I am grateful for not having addictions.
I am grateful for the existence of women.
I am grateful for being able to play football (soccer).
I am grateful for my existence, for being the man I was so far and the person I will end up being, no matter the results.
I am grateful for all the people who have sacrificed themselves in order for me to lead a decent life now and to have access to so many ideas, technology and possibilities.
I am grateful for absolutely everything that is to come and I know that no matter how bad it might get, it is only for the best of it.
I am grateful for the time you spent reading all this.
The positive effect of being thankful for the apparently small yet essential things in life, it’s not something I will debate right now – because I don’t want to affect your comfort zone. But I will challenge you to write down a few of your reasons to be grateful for. But I must warn you that this process might generate more ideas than you’ve ever imagined and you might end up experiencing a state of being… rather unusual…
